Consultation

​Dr. DeFilippo is an experienced advocate who utilizes his knowledge about special education regulations to assist children and youth in meeting their unique needs including: 

  • Parental matters concerning emotional as well as behavioral challenges of their children and adolescents.

  • Academic needs of children and youth with disabilities through independent educational evaluations, advocacy and consultation.

  • Student issues such as: attention deficit disorders, autism, cognitive delays, emotional/behavioral disabilities, learning disabilities and other challenges.  

  • ​Teachers and administrators on disabilities, learning methods, and appropriate interventions and progress monitoring guidelines.

  • Pediatrician consultation

  • Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meeting evaluation and consultation pertaining to the education of children with disabilities.

The Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) will involve a close working relationship with the parents, their child, and the school.

Participation in Meetings on behalf of Students with Disabilities or students not yet identified as having disabilities such as:

•  Parent-teacher conferences

•  Administrative meetings

•  Evaluation team meetings

•  Response to Intervention (RtI) or Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) meetings

•  Individualized Educational Program meetings

•  Mediation sessions

In addition to working with parents and schools, Dr. DeFilippo has served as a Professor at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology teaching graduate-level courses in the Schoo Psychology program such as Principles of Tests and Measurements, School-Based Interventions, and Systems Theory and Practice. He has special expertise in matters of inclusion, differentiated instruction, behavior management (including functional behavioral analyses and positive behavior intervention support), evaluation, procedures relative to discipline and anti-bullying strategies. He has conducted extensive research on independent educational evaluations and has been a frequent presenter at schools.

Working with Children

Dr. DeFilippo has extensive experience conducting detailed independent educational and neuropsychological evaluations with both children and adolescents. He relates well to children and youth and has been effective in working with parents, teachers, and school administrators.


His training, credentials, knowledge, broad and extensive experience, his ability to relate to other professionals and parents makes him a valuable and unique resource for those who utilize his services.


When working in schools, he not only evaluated the needs of students, but managed and assessed the progress of students through Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) including teacher collaboration, intervention consultation, and progress report writing. This included working directly with children and providing both academic and social-emotional instruction to at-risk students both in the general education and special education setting.
